People, Places & Things and River Stage festival to come to HOME

Following a critically-acclaimed, sold-out season at the National Theatre and in London’s West End, People, Places & Things will tour the UK this autumn in a co-production with Headlong, the National Theatre and Exeter Northcott Theatre, with a new cast to be announced.

Written by Duncan Macmillan (1984, Every Brilliant Thing, Lungs), and directed by Headlong Artistic Director Jeremy Herrin (This House, The NetherWolf Hall/Bring Up the Bodies), People, Places & Things is designed by Oliver and Tony Award winning designer Bunny Christie (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.) Macmillan also currently works on the stage adaptation of Paul Auster’s City of Glass, presented by 59 Productions, HOME and Lyric Hammersmith from Sat 4 Mar.

People, Places & Things is about Emma. Emma was having the time of her life. Now she’s in rehab.

Her first step is to admit that she has a problem. But the problem isn’t with Emma, it’s with everything else. She needs to tell the truth. But she’s smart enough to know that there’s no such thing. When intoxication feels like the only way to survive the modern world, how can she ever sober up?

The tour begins here at HOME (Fri 22 Sep – Sat Oct) before travelling to Oxford Playhouse, Bath Theatre Royal, Bristol Old Vic, Northcott Theatre, Exeter, Nuffield Theatre, Southampton and Liverpool Playhouse.

Full casting will be announced shortly.

Directed by Jeremy Herrin with set designs by Bunny Christie, costumes by Christina Cunningham, lighting by James Farncombe, music by Matthew Herbert, sound by Tom Gibbons and video design by Andrzej Goulding.

Back by popular demand, this summer also sees the return of the National Theatre’s free outdoor River Stage festival. We’re thrilled to announce that the festival includes take-over weekends from us here at HOME, as well as East London’s The Glory and Rambert dance company, amongst an eclectic mix of performances that include the very best dance acts, DJ’s and outdoor performances from the NT and its partners.

The festival is a collaborative partnership showcasing world-class programming and presenting new and diverse artists and acts, with something for everyone to enjoy. It takes place on the River Stage, in front of the NT, with events every Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday from Fri 28 Jul until Mon 28 Aug.
