No Boundaries 2017 announces full programme

As the final schedule of short, sharp No Boundaries 2017 provocations are revealed; contributors including Arts Council’s Sir Nicholas Serota, former cultural advisor to the Mayor of London, Munira Mirza and Manchester International Festival Artistic Director, John McGrath are added to the line-up.

In a month where landmark legislation serves to reshape Britain’s future, with as yet unknown consequences for the prosperity and role of the arts and cultural industries, No Boundaries 2017 announces its full programme of timely, thought-provoking panel and audience discussions. Taking place simultaneously here at HOME and Hull Truck Theatre with live streaming between the two venues and to the web, contributors and audiences in both locations are assured lively debate and fresh perspectives.

As he takes up the role of Chairman of Arts Council England, Sir Nicholas Serota will appear at the end of the first day in Hull to deliver a speech in an Arts Council-hosted fringe event, his first public address since leaving Tate in 2016 after 28 years at the helm. One of two fringe events hosted by No Boundaries partners, the second comes courtesy of British Council, hosting breakfast on Day 2 to expand on the international flavor of the conference, inviting delegates to find out more about their global engagement and project development work.

Maintaining a reputation for engaging the brightest, contemporary thinkers, No Boundaries 2017 also welcomes former Deputy Mayor for Education and Culture of London, Munira Mirza and Artistic Director of Manchester International Festival, John McGrath, to debate the new opportunities and challenges presented by a global political landscape in a state of near daily change.  In addition to examining worldwide socio-political change and Britain’s global relationships, urgent provocations also include searching, expert-led questions for cultural marketers, interrogation of the use of cultural projects for place-making in our towns and cities and examples of how bright, future-facing and disruptive thinking can help define new paths for artists and audiences alike.

Far from being a conference of dictated priorities, No Boundaries also presents audience-led, ‘Open Sessions’ to allow delegates to bring their own burning issues to the fore and take the rare opportunity of engaging the keen, collective mind of gathered industry professionals in finding paths to a solution.

Interested in working internationally but not sure where to start? Join the British Council for a breakfast briefing event exploring their international arts programme and how the UK arts sector can get involved. The event will also include a series of announcements about the British Council’s forthcoming arts programme and global opportunities.

Limited delegate passes for both Hull and Manchester events remain available, with a range of different pricing tiers to encourage a wide mix of delegates from across the industry to attend. Numbers are limited to ensure that an informal atmosphere is created. A tier of artist bursary delegate passes, supported by University of Salford was made available by ballot.

No Boundaries is supported by Arts Council England and the British Council as part of their commitment to convene and strengthen cultural organisations in the UK and internationally. By sharing provocative ideas from a diverse range of sources, No Boundaries aims to support the growth of new models, methods and collaborations to shape the future of the arts. No Boundaries is produced by a consortium of arts organisations: HOME (lead partner), Hull Truck Theatre and Hull UK City of Culture 2017.
