HOME announce additional open call commissions for Homemakers

HOME have announced three additional open-call commissions will be available for their Homemakers series of new commissions inviting theatre and live art makers to create new works at home, for an audience who are also at home.

The open call is for any artist living and making work in the North West to create a new work, which will then be made available online through HOME’s website, on a pay-what-you-decide basis.

The works can take any form, and artists are encouraged to think beyond straightforward livestream performances.

Each commission is worth £1,000 to cover development and deliver of the entire budget. The selected commissions will be developed with support from HOME’s Talent Development team, and hosted on the HOME website.

The deadline for proposals is Monday, 20 April.

It is expected that further details of the commissions already announced – including work by Bryony Kimmings, Javaad Alipoor, Ad Infinitum, Chris Thorpe, Yusra Warsama and Plaster Cast Theatre – will be revealed early next week.

Jennie McCusker, HOME’s Head of Talent Development, said: “Our building may be closed, but our commitment to Talent Development remains and we are continuing to find ways to support artists during these extremely challenging times.”

HOME Associate Director Jude Christian said: “This project is a response to the immediate crisis facing artists, audiences and arts organisations. We want to provide artists with a platform to keep making the kind of brilliant, groundbreaking work that venues like HOME exist to programme, and to keep bringing our audiences the best of theatre and live art while our doors are closed.”

We have been overwhelmed by the love and support we’ve received since announcing our temporary closure due to the coronavirus update. This is a difficult time, and we appreciate everyone who has asked how they can help. If you are receiving a refund due to cancellation of a show, please consider being one of the many people who have turned this refund into a donation, if you can afford to do so. And please do add Gift Aid if you can – this means we can claim 25% more, without any additional cost to you. If you would like to make a one-off donation, you can do so via our Response Fund here: https://homemcr.org/about/support/donations/
