Be sure to come along to our Spanish & Latin American Festival, ¡Viva!. This year, we’re introducing a special Fiesta Stage festival tent delivering live music, performance, workshops, dance and brand new commissions in Tony Wilson Place, with an inspiring and varied programme of entertainment responding to and reflecting on the themes of the festival. The tent is to be a lively hub of Latin inspired activity. We will have Palax Spanish craft beers for sale, and a stellar line-up of local, national and international talent for you to enjoy.
On Thu 13 Apr, to celebrate the launch of our new contemporary visual art exhibition La Movida, experience our Traffic Raveover Fiesta, when Traffic Manchester take over the Fiesta stage. Begin with a salsa workshop and work your way through punk flamenco then feminist punk, before Traffic welcome you to a mystical rave and full moon shamanic psytrance experience.
On Fri 14 Apr, we present our Colaboración Fiesta, which brings together three of the UK’s most celebrated musicians (Zawadzki, Roth and Smart) to create a unique musical collaboration exploring some of the most romantic and passionate songs that have come out of Spain. Combine this with Spanish inspired Manchester band Diablo Duo, and Greg Thorpe delivering Spanish inspired sounds, and we have a genuinely Latin-fuelled day of creativity and collaboration.
On Sat 15 Apr, our Family & Fiction Fiesta invites you to drop-in and share the traditional cultures of the indigenous peoples of South America through music, song and storytelling.
Alongside our jam-packed Fiesta programme, we continue with our film screenings featuring the best in new Spanish and Latin American filmmaking, including UK premieres, filmmaker Q&As, and films from 10 different countries – Spain, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.
