Creative Stars Update: Street Dance Workshop at Zion, 27 July 2011

As part of our Creative Stars participant development, we took the group to a street dancing workshop at Zion. Here’s Paddy’s post about it all.

Although I’m by no means a dancer, I decided to go along for the Street Dancing Workshop and tour of Zion Arts Centre. After all I had nothing to lose, and it would prove to be a valuable and interesting experience.

I must say that, as for the actual Zion building itself, I didn’t quite know what to expect. A rather ordinary external appearance gives way to a maze of endless work areas including a theatre, gallery space, offices, bar and much more. I was very impressed by the amount of different activities going on whilst we were there including dancing, acting, singing and costume designing.

As for the actual dancing, after a fair few strenuous stretches, we started learning step by step, part of a street dance. The speed soon escalated and complete focus and attention was necessary in order to do it correctly. However, I gave it my best shot and found it very enjoyable indeed. A few more stretches at the end rounded off a great session.

Thanks to all the people we met at Zion and to the Creative Stars team for organising the event.
