On Corporation Street’s ANU Productions have been nominated for the 2016 Irish Theatre Awards

The full list of nominees have just been unveiled for Irish Theatre Awards, which is organised in association with the Irish Times. Entering its 20th anniversary, the awards will recognise the best performances and productions in Irish theatre in 2016 and will take place at National Concert Hall on Sun 5 March.

After hundreds of shows and days of deliberation, this year’s nominees include the spectacular ANU Productions, for the Judges’ Special Award, for sustained imaginative engagement with the commemoration of 1916 throughout the year.

ANU first came to HOME with the critically acclaimed sell-out show Angel Meadow in June 2014 (winner of Best Production & Best Ensemble, Manchester Theatre Awards 2015), before returning two years later with the immersive On Corporation Street, marking the twentieth anniversary of the bombing of Manchester by the Provisional IRA and the second in a triptych of productions with a focus on the centenary of Ireland’s Easter rising.

The Irish Theatre Awards ceremony is the only one of its kind in Ireland, bringing together the elite of the theatre and related artists, for one night of celebration. Following the success of last year’s event, tickets are once again available for sale to the public, so you can come along, raise the roof and cheer on your favourite productions and shows. Fingers crossed for ANU – watch this space.

PS: if you like immersive, site-specific theatre experiences then be sure not to miss Operation Black Antler by four-times BAFTA nominated artists’ group Blast Theory and critically-acclaimed theatre company Hydrocracker which invites you to enter the murky world of undercover surveillance and question the morality of state-sanctioned spying.
