Cornerhouse Podcast Thu 24 Mar 2011

This week’s podcast is as action packed as a Hong Kong martial arts movie! Yes really, we’re in Hong Kong for the International Film Festival and Film Market. We review the opening films, report back from the Asian Film Awards and bag two exclusive interviews with award winning directors.

The first interview is with one of world cinema’s most exciting new auteurs, Philippine based Brillante Mendoza who won Best Director at Cannes in 2009 for Kinatay. He talks about his latest film with French star Isabelle Huppert and his forthcoming retrospective at Cornerhouse in the autumn.

Next up is Ivy Ho – she is in this month’s Screen International as one of the leading figures in Hong Kong cinema, after a lengthy career as a distinguished screenwriter. Ivy has won numerous awards for her first two films as a director and discusses the current situation of Hong Kong films.

And of course not forgetting our what’s on guide back in Manchester and our staff recommendation of the week.

Enjoy our Asian Film Special.
