Cast announced for The Heretic

We are delighted to confirm the cast for the company’s regional premiere production of Richard Bean’s award-winning The Heretic, which opens at The Lowry in Salford on Thursday 27 September, directed by Library Theatre Company Artistic Director Chris Honer.

Heading the cast as climate change sceptic Dr Diane Cassell is Cate Hamer, most recently seen in our production of Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia at The Lowry in September 2010.

Returning to the Library Theatre Company, as professor Kevin Maloney, Dr Cassell’s ex-lover and someone whose views on climate change are definitely not shared by his ex, is Stuart Fox, who starred in our production of Neil Simon’s comedy I Ought To Be In Pictures in February 2010.

Sophie Robinson, a graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, plays Phoebe, Diane’s daughter. Phoebe finds herself falling for Ben, one of Diane’s students, played by Liverpool-born Ciaran Kellgren, who hit the headlines in 2009 when he starred as Peter Pan in a massive hit production which began life at the Kensington Gardens Theatre before transferring to the O2 Arena.

Royal National Theatre actor Andrew Westfield, a familiar face from appearances in TV shows such as Downton Abbey, Rosemary and Thyme, and Cranford, and known to Manchester theatre audiences after featuring in recent years in Henry V, Cyrano De Bergerac, and Harvey at the Royal Exchange Theatre, plays blunt-speaking Yorkshire security officer Geoff Tordoff, while Polly Lister, with TV credits in Doctors, Casualty, Emmerdale, Martina Cole’s Lady Killers, and The Murder of Stephen Lawrence, completes the cast as Human Resources Officer Catherine Tickell.
