Asia Triennial Manchester 2014 – Books List

ATM14 kicks off this Friday with its launch here at Cornerhouse from 6:30pm. We have a great books list from a selection of artists getting involved, available both online and in our book shop.

The festival includes 54 artists from 12 countries across 14 venues and is a collaboration with a range of sites and partners focusing on three main clusters in IWM North (part of Imperial War Museums) at The Quays, Manchester city centre, Bury and Rochdale. ATM14 aims to challenge perceptions about Asia and with the recent challenging global events, makes its theme of Conflict and Compassion a timely one. This Triennial includes artists who live in, work in or address issues surrounding Asia as well as this Triennial’s artistic theme.

Cornerhouse Publications distribute a range of exciting books related to Asia Triennial Manchester, all of these publications celebrate Asian artists and reinforce the international cross-cultural dialogue supported by the festival.

Get in the spirit and check out our ATM14 books list!

Triennial City: Localising Asian Art, shows how Manchester’s deep global connections, industrial past and migratory experience are reconfigured in the present by engaging new publics in the city, and the diverse ways that triennial culture may serve to inaugurate the city itself.

Institution for the Future, attempts to initiate a discussion across a broad professional network around the notion of an institution for the future, by asking the following questions: What kind of institution is actually needed? What could be the actual model for an institution that we are hoping to establish in the future?

Both as an exhibition and a publication, Alternatives to Ritual attempts to look at the crises in exhibition making and curatorial practice by proposing a reconstruction of the relationships between artists, institution and curator through exploring the exhibition format.
