Playing Up North

The Library Theatre in association with the Actors Centre North presents

‘It’s life son. It might make you laugh at your age, but one day it’ll make you bloody cry.” All In Good Time by Bill Naughton

Over a period of five weeks participants will explore a selection of Northern plays from Harold Brighouse and Stanley Houghton to contemporary writers including Simon Stephens and Richard Bean.

The course will place focus on acting skills and through a rehearsal process will analyse the various demands these plays place on the actor.

What can we learn from the plays of the past and how do they differ from contemporary Northern plays? How as actors do we approach different styles of play and make an older play come alive for a modern audience?

This explorative process will culminate in an informal performance for an invited audience of industry professionals at The Zion Arts Centre.

Course led by Katie Lewis, Natalie Grady, and guest director Chris Honer
