Calling all artists! Sketch-O-Matic is back

Following on from the huge success of two residencies at our previous home at Cornerhouse, Sketch-O-Matic, the almost instant picture booth with the cult following makes a triumphant return to HOME this December!

You are invited to sit inside the booth as if for a photograph and make a minimum donation of £1 to an artist through an anonymous slot in return for a self-portrait. But where the machinery should be is a tiny, fully equipped artist studio.

We’ve processed over 2,000 sitters to date, with queues snaking through the building at peak times. Lots of you made repeat visits to collect multiple portraits by different artists.

Sketch-O-Matic was created to trigger discussion around the financial value of creative output, exchange charity with patronage and highlight the role of the citizen philanthropist.

A heap of former fan favourites will be returning, but we’re also looking for new artists, no matter your style or level of ability. Help get the word out and drop us a line if you’re interested. Typical slots will be 1 hour long and at least 1 slot per artist, many of who have described the anonymity and adrenaline rush as something of a thrill.

If you’re interested in squashing inside the artist studio and creating portraits in double-quick time, please email bren@homemcr.org with your contact details and a sample portrait created in 5 minute or less. You must be based in the North West to take part as an artist.

Please also indicate when you are generally available between Fri 3 – Sun 13 December (e.g. evenings only, or particular days). The booth will operate from 12:00noon until 22:00 daily. Participants are free to keep any and all donations that arrive through the coin slot during their time inside.

Other forms of creative response are also encouraged, from collage to wordsmiths (we’ve even had a super-fast seamstress!) as long as it results in a small, takeaway portrait-based response.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Sketch-O-Matic will return to the building from Fri 3 to Sun 13 December 2015
