Thérèse Desqueyroux

The late Claude Miller’s (Un Secret) final film is an exquisite adaptation of François Mauriac’s classic 1927 novel Thérèse Desqueyroux. Audrey Tautou is stunning as the eponymous Thérèse, a free-spirited woman suffocated and stifled in her loveless marriage to her boorish husband, Bernard. The couple married not for love, but to join together their family estates in southwest France and the young Thérèse soon sets out to break free from her banal life, by any means necessary.
