The Masseur

Directed by Brillante Mendoza

In Manila, young masseur Iliac struggles to balance his job at a gay massage parlour, where sex is commonplace outside his work, with his strong willed Japanese girlfriend. On the surface his problem seems to be in reconciling these two sides of his complicated life – that is until his estranged father dies and he is forced to go back to the provinces and confront the fact that life is all too short. A coming of age tale which considers the conflicts of modern lifestyles within a traditional society where religion, prejudice and family ties are paramount.
