The Legend of Barney Thomson

Directed by Robert Carlyle

Based on the novel by Douglas Lindsay, this pitch black comedy marks an impressive directorial debut for actor Robert Carlyle. Carlyle himself stars as the eponymous Thomson, an awkward barber whose mundane life takes a darker turn when his dark fantasies become reality and he finds himself entering the bizarre and grotesque world inhabited by serial killers. Complicating matters further, Barney’s mother Cemolina (a gloriously OTT Emma Thompson) has a secret of her own, causing a bloody and comedic chain of events. Rounded out by an impressive supporting cast including Tom Courtney and Martin Compston, this is rowdy, rebellious fun.
