Queen of Earth

Directed by Alex Ross Perry

Alex Ross Perry’s follow up to the brilliant (if divisive) Listen Up Philip evokes Bergman’s Persona in its portrait of an unravelling mind. The film is spun from a deceptively simple narrative. Tensions rise when an emotionally fragile woman (Moss) spends one week with her best friend (Waterston). Brilliantly written and an acute analysis of mental illness and neurosis, the film eloquently draws on elements to be found in psychological horror films such as Rosemary’s Baby. Moss is sensational.
