Queen and Country

Directed by John Boorman

The final film from John Boorman is a wonderful end to an outstanding career. 1952. Bill Rohan is 18, dreaming his life away at the family’s riverside home, waiting to be called up for two years’ conscription in the Army. This idyll is shattered by the harsh realities of boot camp. An enjoyable, semi-autobiographical companion piece to Hope and Glory, Queen and Country is a sensitive and sympathetic look at National Service and a peek back into a changing Britain.

“★★★★ Thoughtful and funny.”
