Ordet

Directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer

Adapted from Kaj Munk’s play set in a remote Danish farming community, Ordet tells the story of Johannes – a young man who, after studying the radical Christian philosopher Kierkegaard, comes to believe he is Jesus Christ with miraculous powers. Written and directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer, his penultimate film is at once a wise exploration of pride, prejudice and pretensions to devout faith, and an emotionally arresting hymn to the power of earthly passion and love.
