Moon

Directed by Duncan Jones

Sam Bell has been living a lonely life for 3 long years, mining vital gas from the far side of the moon, and obstructed from communicating home thanks to a broken satellite. However, as his contract with Lunar Industries nears its end, and with hopes of a family reunion appearing on the horizon, Sam’s health suddenly takes a turn for the worst which leads to a near fatal accident and the discovery that his employers plan to replace him with a new recruit, who is all too eerily familiar.

Selected for That’s a Wrap by Richard Addlesee:

When I saw Moon in Cinema 3, the film was so captivating, so amazing, so full of wonder, character and heart that it drew me into that world of science and mystery. At that time I was in my final year of filmmaking at the University of Bolton and, unfortunately, was in a very deep pit of worry over my degree, over whether or not I was making the right choices, chasing the right dream. But all those worries were extinguished with this movie. I found my love of cinema again. My love of wonder and excitement.
I’m glad to say, with those romantic notions of one day being a feature film director and connecting with a viewer’s heart I set out to complete my degree. I now make short films, I’d like to say for a living, but it’s more for the pure enjoyment of the process and also to see the look on the audiences face. Moon gave me a fresh belt of wind to my sails, and with it a heartfelt dedication to doing what I wanted, what I loved…to make film.
