A lady saloon owner (Crawford) battles a female rancher out to frame her for murder by hiring a former gunslinger (Hayden) in Ray’s bold, visionary western. Experimenting with colour, stylized sets and trading on operatic emotions, the film is an effective anti-McCarthy attack on mob psychology.
