The Goalie’s Anxiety at the Penalty Kick

Directed by Wim Wenders

Having remained unavailable for three decades, Wim Wenders’ 1972 classic The Goalie’s Anxiety at the Penalty Kick has been restored and remastered in stunning 4k, commissioned by the Wim Wenders Foundation under the direct supervision of Wenders himself.

A goalkeeper (Bloch) is sent off after committing a foul during an away game. This causes him to completely lose his bearings in what slowly becomes an existential crime thriller.  Taken from a novella from Peter Handke, the film, Wenders’ debut feature, is infused with the spirit of Hitchcock.
