Playreading: Krapp’s Last Tape by Samuel Beckett

Originally performed in 1958 at the Royal Court Theatre as a curtain raiser to Endgame, Beckett’s one man, one act play tells the story of an old man preparing to archive his last year on tape, as he has done on the eve of every previous birthday since he was a boy. Upon listening to an earlier recording, Krapp is confronted by his confident younger self and before long enters into a haunting personal dialogue that leaves his fears and despair exposed.
