Before we close our doors for the final time, artist Humberto Vélez presents The Storming, a celebratory performance to bid farewell to Cornerhouse in truly spectacular style. The Storming is divided into two parts. In part 1, Manchester’s diverse social, cultural and community groups will descend on the building before storming the entrance for a specially commissioned performance. Audiences will then follow the performers inside the building. The title of the piece recalls both the famous Russian mass-action performance of 1920, The Storming of the Winter Palace, and the comical movements of Tati’s characters in his film Playtime, as they march, ant-like, through the furrows of a bafflingly modernist Paris.
