To complement this year’s screening of María y el Araña, this talk will look at some of the diverse ways that Latin American cities have been depicted on the big screen. Focusing on films released in the last two decades, the talk will discuss productions that include, among others, Amores perros, La Zona and Pelo malo. It will also pay special attention to the Buenos Aires neighbourhood where María y el Araña is set, Puerto Madero, also looking at how other films, including Nueve reinas, have used the same part of the city.

Led by Dr James Scorer, Lecturer in Latin American Cultural Studies at the University of Manchester.
