Complicite Workshop: Adapting The Encounter

Led by Kirsty Housley

Complicite’s most recent production, The Encounter, is inspired by and partly adapted from Petru Popescu’s novel Amazon Beaming. In this two day course, the show’s co-director Kirsty Housley looks at this process of adaptation, exploring the ways narrative can be woven with other material to create new stories for the stage. Working as the Company does, the workshop will be largely movement and practice-based, taking in the games and exercises Complicite uses in the rehearsal room.

Kirsty is a director and writer. She co-directed The Encounter with Simon McBurney and was his Associate Director on Shun-kin. Kirsty has been the recipient of the Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust award and the Northern Stage Title Pending Award and is an associate of The Point and Theatre Uncut.
