Anguish and Enthusiasm Film Programme

As part of our art exhibition Anguish and Enthusiasm we present a series of films and Q&As that consider different filmic approaches to the themes explored. Several feature films address the themes directly, including Peter Lennon’s Rocky Road to Dublin and the newly restored Tsar to Lenin. Reflecting on the Romanian Revolution of 1989, we also present an exclusive screening of Andre Ujica’s The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceauşescu, which charts the rise and fall of this dictator’s rule.

In addition there will be two editions of Anguish and Enthusiasm: Artist Film Forum which will illustrate artists’ film responses, with works by Phil Collins and Hito Steyerl. We will also be screening John Lalor’s Incident Urbain, a hybrid of architectural exploration, surveillance, film noir and psychogeography, seen through the mysterious characters of Costello and the Colonel.

Finally, in June and July, The UK’s Arab Film Festival presents a series of films that address the 2011/12 Arab uprisings and their consequences.
