We’re up for nine Manchester Theatre Awards

Our two site-specific productions in 2014 – Angel Meadow, directed by Louise Lowe and presented by Dublin’s ANU Productions, and Romeo & Juliet, directed by our very own Walter Meierjohann, share seven nominations between them in this year’s Manchester Theatre Awards, which released its short-list of nominations today.

Angel Meadow has three: Best Production, Best Design, and Best Ensemble; while Romeo & Juliet has four: Best Production, Best Design, and Best Ensemble, plus a nomination for Will Coban, who played Tybalt, as Best Newcomer. Our patron Suranne Jones has been nominated as Best Actress for her performance  as Orlando in the Royal Exchange production of Orlando.

“We are delighted and honoured to have received so many nominations for our first year of programming for HOME,” says Walter Meierjohann. “Both Angel Meadow and Romeo & Juliet allowed us to engage with Manchester and its audiences in a very special way, and we are thrilled to have received such a warm and open response.

“I am very thankful to Louise Lowe and her team at ANU Productions for launching our site-specific theatre season in such a spectacular way, and to all our visiting companies who made our season so exciting.

“And finally, a very special thanks to everyone who worked so hard on Romeo & Juliet, setting the precedent for how we wish to work at HOME.”

In addition, two touring productions that played in the pop-up theatre space at Number One First Street last Autumn have also been recognised with nominations. The Events, from the Actors’ Touring Company, has made the list as Best Visiting Production, while Best of BE FESTIVAL appears in the Best Special Entertainment category.

Finally, one of the closing shows at this year’s Re:play Festival, The Tongue Twister, presented by Red Lolly, is on the short-list in the Best Fringe Production category. You can catch it this Saturday down at Number One First Street.

This year’s Manchester Theatre Awards ceremony takes place on Friday 13 March at the Royal Northern College of Music. You can view the complete list of nominations, and a limited number of tickets are available to the public for the event. Good luck to all the nominees.
