Vote Golem: Best Play finalists in the MEN CityLife Awards 2015

This year, you get to choose who takes the coveted title of ‘Best Play’ in the annual Manchester Evening News CityLife Awards, which recognises the people and places who made the most of the last 12 months.

2015 has been a monumental year for theatre in Manchester and the MEN had a lot of nominations for the Best Play category which, according to our friends working there, caused some serious debate in CityLife Towers. In the end, they’ve picked a selection that they think show the full breadth of what Manchester theatres experienced in the past year: Manchester writers, original work, bold roles taken on by local big name actors, plus the absolute best of the visiting productions.

We’re delighted that the MEN have picked pioneering company 1927’s Golem as on of their Best Play finalists.

Golem, which was showing here at HOME in October this year, received rave reviews from both our audiences and the media. Blending stunningly original animation with entrancing music and live performance, 1927 create theatrical experiences unlike anything you will have seen before. Like a giant graphic novel burst into life, they invite you to take a step through the looking glass into a dark and fantastical tale of an extraordinary ordinary man.

And by the way, remember our amazing Cornerhouse closing performance The Storming, which took place in April this year? The team at the Manchester Evening News have decided to also nominate this event as part of the Special Event category.
