Two architectural award wins for HOME

We are very excited to have won not just one, but two prestigious architecture awards.

Buildings across Manchester have been recognised for the quality of their world class design by The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and HOME has been named as one of 10 winners to receive the RIBA North West Award, in recognition of their architectural excellence. Having shortlisted 17 buildings, the judging panel visited all shortlisted projects over a week in March and reached a decision to award 10 RIBA Regional Awards at a prestigious ceremony hosted by BBC 6 Music’s Stuart Maconie at The Bluecoat in Liverpool, attended by members of the profession from across the North West.

In addition to the regional awards announced on the evening, projects were eligible to win one or more RIBA Regional Special Awards. Manchester City Council won Client of the Year Award for HOME, and also the Library Walk Link Building and Manchester Central Library.

Councillor Rosa Battle, Executive Member Culture and Leisure, Manchester City Council, said: “HOME is a fantastic addition to Manchester’s renowned cultural scene and one we’re very proud of. The RIBA award is well deserved – HOME not only looks good, it functions superbly as a venue and looks well set to stand the test of time, with high numbers of visitors from the city and beyond flocking through its doors during the last year since it opened.”

Meanwhile, 40 of the North West’s most inspiring property schemes battled it out for top honours at the 2016 RICS Awards, North West. Martin Roberts, ‘Homes Under the Hammer’ presenter and property expert, was the host for this year’s ceremony held at The Titanic in Liverpool. We’re pleased to say that HOME, delivered by Wates Construction, Mecanoo and AECOM, has won in the North West Tourism & Leisure category, an award that honours projects that make an outstanding contribution to tourism and leisure facilities in the region of their locality.
