The fun & magic of Storybox

Storybox is our creative storytelling project for people with dementia and their carers. We have been funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation to deliver workshops with different groups of people around Manchester for three years. The first year of the project has got off to a swinging start. We’ve worked in day centres, residential homes and clinical settings with a different box of props, costumes and music each week that stimulate the senses and start points for stories. It’s very much a collaboration between us, participants and staff, so we can share skills and ideas to continue the activities after we’ve gone.

To celebrate a successful first year we’ve captured some of the magic and fun that participating groups have been having in a short video by filmmaker Luca Rudlin and Shore Green, at a sheltered housing scheme in Wythenshawe. We hope it shows that with a little bit of creativity you can bring people together and make them feel good. That gives us something to be proud of and to look forward to, we all need that don’t we?
