Spotlight: Ghosts Star Ken Nwosu

Ken Nwosu can currently be seen on our stage starring as tortured prodigal son Osvalt opposite Niamh Cusack in Director Polly Findlay’s modern-day retelling of gothic classic, Ghosts. Here, Ken shares some thoughts on everything from what attracted him to the arts to what his super power would be…

What’s your earliest memory of cinema/the theatre/the arts?

Ken Nwosu: My earliest memory is doing the Nativity in reception and playing King Herod. I remember being offered grapes and booming (or what I thought was booming) the words “feed me” and then a girl with a jug of water approaching and me not knowing what to say. I didn’t know the word so I panicked and boomed again: “DRINK ME!” and the parents at the back of the hall just laughed their heads off. I thought I got away with it.

Which living actor/director/artist do you most admire?

KN: I can watch anything that involves Denzel Washington. His ability to internally take on the problems of any character he’s given is something I admire more than greatly. I wouldn’t say he was the most obvious outwardly transformative actor but I believe everything he does. He’s my favourite.

If you could go back in time, where would you go?

KN: In all honesty: I wouldn’t.

What would your super power be?

KN: Indestructibility.

What has been your most difficult achievement?

KN: Jumping off a plane at 12,000 feet.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

KN: It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

What’s your guiltiest pleasure?

KN: Sugary foods.

What film can you watch/book can you read time and time again?

KN: Man’s Search For Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl.

When you’re not at work, where are you most likely to be found?

KN: At home.
