Our final weeks…

The days appear to fly by at the moment as we prepare for our big move to HOME on First Street. It only seems like yesterday that our fantastic programming team had their first big planning meeting with Humberto Vélez, the genius that is behind our spectacular final artwork The Storming which is now just over two weeks away.

The performance will take place in two parts on Sat 4 April with audiences, artists, community groups and DJs from Manchester’s past and present club scenes taking part in a truly unique send off for Cornerhouse. Multi-layered, and incorporating themes from Cornerhouse’s cultural history, The Storming takes inspiration from the famous revolutionary mass-action performance The Storming of the Winter Palace (1920) and the comical movements of Jacques Tati’s characters in his 1967 film Playtime. It is also the final performance of our group exhibition Playtime, which has just last weekend closed its doors to the public.

We’re also in the midst of That’s a Wrap (on until Thu 2 April, our final normal business day), our very last season of film which has been programmed  by our beloved audience who has been nominating past films to return to the big screen.

And downstairs, in our foyer, you can meet Scribbler. Think of Scribbler as your agony aunt, best friend, diary – we ask you to contribute to a piece of crowd-sourced artwork by leaving a message to express what Cornerhouse has meant to you.  A special moment, favourite memory, unforgettable experience, event, film, or exhibition – or to simply say farewell. Contributions so far include memories of disastrous first dates, French cinema and lots and lots of wine. Get writing now – visit www.cornerhousescribbler.co.uk or join via Twitter by using the hashtag #cornerhousescribbler.

Just a heads up peeps – we will be closed to the public on Fri 3 April to prepare for The Storming, and will then close our doors for the last time after the events on Sat 4 April. But don’t worry – we look forward to seeing you at HOME very soon!
