Only 3 days to go: have you had your portrait done at Sketch-O-Matic yet?

Our almost-instant picture booth Sketch-O-Matic is in full swing and has been ever so popular.

This year’s booth follows the huge success of two residencies at our previous home at Cornerhouse. We’ve were especially busy yesterday, on the press night for our Christmas production Inkheart. Artist Kim Thompson, who was in the Sketch-O-Matic booth for the final hours of the evening, processed a jaw-dropping 34 portraits in 3 hours!

We also received a return visit from the couple who got engaged in the booth in 2012. This time they brought their 4 month old baby to be drawn by the same artist who drew the proposal picture, Hammo.

For those of you who haven’t heard, Sketch-O-Matic is a full size portrait booth but where the machinery should be is a tiny, fully equipped artist studio with a person beavering away inside. Over the course of a ten days and evenings, you are invited to sit inside the booth as if for a photograph and make a minimum donation of £1 per person through the slot. Wait five minutes and an image, poem or collage, but always unique form of portraiture appears in the dispensing tray, accompanied by the warm blast of a travel hairdryer.

We’ve already welcomed over 700 sitters – with only 3 days to go be sure you don’t miss the opportunity, and come visit Sketch-O-Matic this weekend. And if you’re here, why not take part in our BIG Family Day this Sunday?
