HOME Young Creatives guide to our HOMEwarming

We welcome you to enjoy a long bank holiday weekend, offering a flavour of future events that you can expect to enjoy here at HOME…

Come along to this new arts hub on First Street to get involved in our Heartbeats Discussions, film and music events, backstage tours and theatre performances. Our HOME Young Creatives Launch Event on Mon 25 May is a brilliant opportunity for 15-25 year olds in and around the Manchester area to network with other young people and to find out what is on offer for them at HOME. Here’s what you can look forward to over the entire weekend…

Heartbreak
The thematic glue that joins together much of the opening weekend is heartbreak. Now, whilst that doesn’t sound like a particularly jubilant way to open the HOME Young Creative’s programme, the programme couldn’t be further from doom and gloom. To kick things off in a vibrant style, theatre production The Funfair brings a modern interpretation of 20th century masterpiece Kasimir and Karoline to the HOME stage, accompanied by a live band, scoring the play with rock and roll exuberance. However, if you’d prefer something less visceral and more discussion-led, then our HOME Young Creatives Heartbeats 3 panel (Mon 25 at 15:00) is looking into love in the digital age; have we lost touch with this once universal emotion? Or if that’s a bit too deep, then why not just sing your heart out at Friday’s Heartbreak Karaoke, from 21:00 ‘til late, as a cathartic release of love and loss.

Film
HOME offers a variety of film screenings and discussions for young people. During the opening weekend there are four specific films chosen to entice young creative, including; East is East [15], 24 Hour Party People [18], A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night [15] and The Tribe [18].

Two of these films were made in and about Manchester itself (East is East & 24 Hour Party People) and offer a wider reading of the city for audiences. If you’re from the local area or you’re simply visiting, the films delve into the Manchester culture of the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Alternatively, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night and The Tribe offer a wider viewing experience of international culture whilst exploring bold narratives, which we’re sure you’ll enjoy.

Events
If you’re after something different, look out for our the various events taking place across the weekend. New Manchester Walks will be holding a Manchester Music Tour on Saturday at 14.30 (meet at HOME). This will be a tour around our musically driven city, the playground of various Manchester music figures, touching on famous music-related places from the Hacienda all the way across the city to Dry Bar in the Northern Quarter.

If music is your thing, don’t miss the number of DJs and musicians either, who will be providing music from Thu 21 May at 18.00 until late in the evening Sat 22 May.

Sunday provides a chance for everyone to come together for an all-day street party with an eclectic combination of live music, art, food and theatre. And keep an eye out for The Whale, an unforgettable three-minute small theatre performance!

Whether you’re into film, theatre or music, you’ll definitely find something to take part in over our HOMEwarming launch weekend. We hope to see you there.
