Head HOME

This Saturday, our doors opened to the public for the very first time, treating you to a special selection of films including including Blade Runner and The White Ribbon. Here are some of the tweets that were posted over the weekend:

Well as it turns out, @HOME_mcr is an excellent sequel to @CornerhouseMcr – what a relief.

@Paulando
Watching Blade Runner at @HOME_mcr was the most immersive cinema experience I’ve ever had. The visuals, the sound… incredible!

Visited @HOME_mcr yesterday for first time. Felt the spirit of @CornerhouseMcr  was there and the staff were fabulous too!

@thomasgrieve
Hope they keep up this kind of programming too. I love catching up with filmmakers old work when they have something new out. @HOME_mcr

That means that you can now watch a film at HOME, or try out our fantastic new bars, cafe and restaurant. We’re also looking forward to our trailblazer performance with Hofesh Shechter Company this week, who will present tHE bAD – a loud, smoky collision of music and dance just the way they like it, exclusively for HOME (book tickets here). Joel Harries, one of Shechter’s most recognisable musicians (having played live with the Company around the world) takes the stage to perform a live gig in the second part of the evening with three piece instrumental band, 72% Morrissey, and Hofesh Shechter Company dancer and performer in tHE bAD, Maëva Berthelot, will take the groove into the night in a post-show DJ set.

On Thu 14 May the action in Theatre 1 continues with The Funfair, a new version of an amazing play, Kasimir and Karoline, adapted for HOME by Olivier-Award winning writer Simon Stephens (who also adapted The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time for the National Theatre). The original was written in the late 1920’s, at a time of massive social unrest, when the economy was on everyone’s mind and politicians were fighting for power…. timely themes for today too! The play tells the story of Cash and Caroline, young lovers on the verge of a major breakup and it’s a funny, twisting, turning, emotional rollercoaster ride through the loops, dips and highs of one night with them at the fairground (book tickets here). A live band will rock a soundtrack of iconic tracks, from Eddie Cochran to Iggy Pop, and the brilliant ensemble cast features Ben Batt (Scott & Bailey, Shameless) and Katie Moore (Misfits, The Paradise). The Funfair is directed by our Artistic Director: Theatre, Walter Meierjohann, and it’s designed by Ti Green, who brought our beautiful, award-winning production of Romeo & Juliet to life at Victoria Baths last year.

And last but not least, we are excited about our HOMEwarming Weekend in May (Thu 21 – Mon 25 May) – expect a jam-packed long weekend of events, art, theatre, film and music: world premieres, exclusive new film previews and funfair inspired cinematic classics, a neighbourhood street party and art exploring love, lust, teenage fandom and heartbreak in the gallery. Plus a walk-in whale and an incredible book-eating boy…be sure not to miss out.
